Small amounts of stevia are perfectly safe for dogs and cats. Multiple products in the pet industry use stevia as a sugar alternative, including dental chews, dental cleaners, and other supplements. Important note: stevia should not be confused with xylitol, which is toxic to pets. They are completely different ingredients.
